O God, who in the Blessed Virgin Mary didst make a fit dwelling-place for thy Son: grant, we beseech thee, that we who honour her shrine at Walsingham may also become temples of thy Holy Ghost. Through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the same Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Pope Francis on Anglican Orders

Amongst other highly controversial statements today, Pope Francis writes, 'On the other hand, to be rigorous, let us recognise that a clear and authoritative doctrine on the exact nature of a "definitive statement" has not yet been fully developed. It is not a dogmatic definition, and yet it must be adhered to by all. No one can publicly contradict it and yet it can be a subject of study, as with the case of the validity of ordinations in the Anglican Communion.' Today's statement seems to be saying that Leo XIII's teaching is currently binding on the Roman Catholic faithful, but that does not prevent further study of the Anglican Orders question. The language is, as usual, confusing and unclear, but it seems the Bishop of Rome may be inviting a reconsideration of the question.

ALMIGHTY God, who by thy Son Jesus Christ didst give to thy holy Apostles many excellent gifts, and didst charge them to feed thy flock; Give grace, we beseech thee, to all Bishops, the Pastors of thy Church, that they may diligently preach thy Word, and duly administer the godly Discipline thereof; and grant to the people, that they may obediently follow the same; that all may receive the crown of everlasting glory; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

On 3rd October 1991, at the Conference on Anglican Unity held at Deerfield Beach, Florida, Robert William Stanley Mercer, CR, sometime Bishop Ordinary of Matabeleland in the Province of Central Africa, Robert Herbert Mize, Junior, sometime Bishop Ordinary of Damaraland in the Province of Southern Africa, and Charles Francis Boynton, sometime Bishop Suffragan of New York and Missionary Bishop of Puerto Rico, consecrated the hierarchy of the Anglican Province of America.

Anglican Joint Synods 2023

Let us pray for the Anglican Joint Synods (G3) to be held from 9th to 13th October 2023 in Orlando, Florida, and, at that time, for the XI Provincial Synod of the Anglican Province of America, and for the 55th Synod of the Diocese of the Eastern United States of the Anglican Province of America.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who by thy Holy Spirit didst preside in the Council of the blessed Apostles, and hast promised, through thy Son Jesus Christ, to be with thy Church to the end of the world; We beseech thee to be with the Council of thy Church assembled in thy Name and Presence. Save us from all error, ignorance, pride, and prejudice; and of thy great mercy vouchsafe, we beseech thee, so to direct, sanctify, and govern us in our work, by the mighty power of the Holy Ghost, that the comfortable Gospel of Christ may be truly preached, truly received, and truly followed, in all places, to the breaking down the kingdom of sin, Satan, and death; till at length the whole of thy dispersed sheep, being gathered into one fold, shall become partakers of everlasting life; through the merits and death of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.
